Candace Owens is a U.S. conservative commentator, author, and podcaster. She rose to prominence as a communications director at Turning Point USA. On July 23, 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron filed a 219-page defamation lawsuit in Delaware Superior Court against Owens. The Macrons accuse Owens of launching an “outlandish” campaign to defame Brigitte Macron, chiefly through a multi-episode podcast titled “Becoming Brigitte”, as well as social media posts, in which Owens claimed Brigitte was born male under the name Jean‑Michel Trogneux. Owens also accused the Macrons of other conspiracies, including identity theft, incest and involvement in a CIA mind-control program. The Macrons are seeking punitive damages, a jury trial, and want to hold Owens accountable for reputational and emotional harm.
