Morocco’s Youth Challenge State Priorities in Unprecedented Protests

Morocco is witnessing one of its most significant youth-led movements in decades, as Gen Z activists mobilize nationwide to demand urgent improvements in healthcare, education, and job opportunities. Triggered by recent maternal deaths in overcrowded hospitals, the protests highlight frustration over government priorities, with billions allocated to stadiums and international events while basic services remain neglected. Demonstrations, largely organized via social media and without central leadership, have spread rapidly across major cities. While authorities promise dialogue, young Moroccans remain skeptical. Their message is clear: prestige projects cannot substitute for dignity, opportunity, and essential services. The movement’s momentum continues to build.
