This is one of those topics that just had to come up after all we are here to give our perspectives. Religion is a way of life that has been powerfully institutionalized through Godmen who use historically successful mental, social and cultural structures to control a congregation. 85% of today’s 8 billion people across the world believe in a religion.
As globalization continues to evolve, so does religion and today, money, power-drunkenness and crime are factors shaping the destinies of many godmen – many have passed on, some are in jail and others are still persisting. Certain Godmen have been criticized for exploiting mass gullibility to build empires that indulge in crimes of sex and financial enrichment. When the quest for fame and fortune overtakes the not-for-profit mission that religion is supposedly built upon, what comes next?
From the pastor that walks on the backs of church members. To the pastor that sleeps with married and unmarried women to deliver their souls from sin. To the Imam that sleeps with children to prepare them for the world. The stories are endless. The biggest buildings in many run-down neighborhoods are religious institutions built luxuriously while majority of the congregants live in penury. Anyone can wake up and decide to be a pastor or imam or Godman or conman, right?
The key to a better world today is mental freedom developed by learning beyond what we are born into or taught. Our world needs a much stronger dosage of smart thinkers, doers and visionaries. My name is Olatorera Majekodunmi-Oniru and I love all things Greater Humanity.
