Re: Attacks on Oworonshoki Citizens and Opposition Leaders in Lagos – Latest Statement from Princess Olatorera Oniru

Princess Olatorera Majekodunmi-Oniru Condemns Oworonshoki demolitions and attacks on GRV, ADC members and Obidients. Warns of Rising Authoritarianism in Nigeria

Lagos, Nigeria – September 7th, 2025

In the early hours of Saturday, September 6, residents of Oworonshoki, Lagos State, were violently displaced in a midnight raid. Armed thugs stormed homes, forcing families into the streets as demolition crews moved in. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and despair as citizens were left homeless, penniless, and traumatized overnight. Later that same day, Lagos State Governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV) was allegedly blocked from holding a scheduled political event at a venue his campaign had lawfully secured. Instead, the venue was reportedly taken over violently by incumbent forces, with banners bearing the image of Bola Tinubu displayed on its perimeter.

Responding to these incidents, Princess Oniru issued a strong condemnation:

“What happened today is wrong and condemnable in every way. Democracy cannot thrive where citizens are brutalized, opposition voices are silenced, and laws of humanity are disrespected. Nigerian citizens must stand tall against kleptocrats, thugs, and warmongers.”

Princess Oniru stressed that Nigeria stands at a historic crossroads:

We face a choice between regression and unprecedented progress, between emptiness and action, between propaganda and evidential results, between entrenched corruption and genuine freedom, and between mass suffering and a future of peace, unity, and prosperity.
