Nigeria is a country with highly ambitious citizens yet, a country with over 80% poverty-stricken people. Opportunities are few, jobs are scarce, millions hustle daily. Some swear to do whatever it takes to pull themselves out of poverty and attain some level of success in life. Some venture into unfortunate ritualistic and underworld activities. Most get caught.
- Timothy Owoeye – Osun State House of Assembly member representing Ilesa East State Constituency. In 2018, he was caught engaging in ritualistic activities. Youth in the community caught Owoeye, in late night darkness, taking a ritual bath with blood inside a bush at Osunjela area of Osogbo, the capital of Osun State. Some speculate that the blood was that of his girlfriend as blood was also found in Owoeye’s car. Knowing the lag in Nigeria’s police system, this case will likely be swept off and not properly investigated. Owoeye’s team and the Osun State police are reporting that the instance is as a result of Owoeye being blackmailed, this is most likely in a bid to protect Owoeye’s political ambitions.
- Monsurat Munirat Adedoyin – Former Deputy Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government of Lagos State, Nigeria. In 2014, she was caught in a forest attempting to use a child for rituals in an attempt to increase her wealth, power and political standing. The child escaped unharmed with the intervention of passerbys.
- Sam Edem – Chairman of Niger Delta Commission (NDCC). The controversial, highly corrupt boss was accused of stealing a total of £3.4 million in public money to pay a “babalawo” also known as witchdoctor, to make him richer and to get rid of a powerful rival. The Babalawo asked Edem to burn £1.2 million in cash and smear the ashes over his naked body in a cemetery in the middle of the night which he was caught doing in 2008 and charged to court.
- Adeyemi Alao – A wealth aspirant who murdered Adenike Khadijat Oluboyo, the daughter of deputy governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Olugbenga Oluboyo, under Rotimi Akeredolu’s tenure as Governor of the state. This occurred in 2018.
- Victor Omololu Olunloyo – Aged Former 2-months Governor of Oyo State of Nigeria. He is more notable in recent days for his daughther’s controversies. Kemi Olunloyo, in 2014, alleged that her father engages in ritual activities and once took her and her siblings to ritualists.
