The World Bank has pointed out the importance of private developers in achieving affordable housing, in its statement saying ‘you cannot do without private developers.’ The World Bank is now urging the Kenyan government to support the private sector as there have been new reports by the global lender of inadequate infrastructure, lack of access to land and lack of affordable credits to the private sector which is resulting to obstructions in home ownership.
The provision of affordable housing is a crucial part of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s development project known as ‘The Big Four’ for the next five years in Kenya’s development. The Kenyan economic update report states that limiting the private sector will hinder the success of the Big Four. Reports have shown that the participation of a healthy private sector will go a long way in improving agricultural productivity, manufacture exports increase, building affordable housing units as well as quality health services.
