Diezani Alison Madueke is known to most Nigerians as the most corrupt woman the country ever had in political powers. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria has officially announced the commencement of the extradition process for Diezani Alison Madueke, former minister of petroleum during ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s regime, from the UK. The acting spokesman of the commission Tony Orilade disclosed that the operations department of the commission has made a formal presentation to its legal department to begin the process. According to Mr Tony Orilade; “It is ongoing. Within the next few weeks, the extent to which we have gone will be made known to the public,” “It is not a fresh case; it is not a fresh petition that is just being looked into; the whole process is a total package. “This extradition is just an aspect of Diezani’s investigation and commencement of trial.” The extradition process is said to be handled through the office of the attorney-general of the federation.
Diezani Alison Madueke was alleged to have looted billions of naira of funds belonging to the government during her time as the petroleum minister, having authorised several illicit contracts and deals through the NNPC and with the permission of the former Nigerian president whom she served under. Investigations by the EFCC into her corrupt dealings began shortly after the incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari assumed office and in 2017, the federal high court in Lagos state ordered that the final forfeiture of N7.6 billion alleged to have been looted be recovered from the former minister to the federal government.
Diezani Alison Madueke who is said to be in a state of ill-health through the year has been under investigations in the UK where she resides but had urged the Nigerian federal government to bring her back to the country to face the corruption charges against her. Diezani Alison Madueke brought several young men up through the course of her illegal, corrupt activities. Men she made include Kola Aluko, Jide Omokri and Dapo Balogun.
