Final Judgement Opinion: Is Duchess Meghan Really Influencing Prince Harry to be a Rebel?

Less than one year after welcoming their baby, Prince Archie, the royal duo of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are set to make another life-changing decision regarding their family. The couple released a statement via their official Instagram page announcing their decision to step back from being senior members of the royal family to have more time to take on their new roles, raise their son in North America and become more financially independent. Amidst heightened tensions, the media has tagged Duchess Meghan as a bad influence, with Britons going as far as claiming that “she is stealing their Prince from them”. Their journey to financial independence is one of several decisions by which the couple has broken royal protocol to follow their path. However, this has received the most backlash.

Is it possible that the Duchess of Sussex is the brain behind this defiance? A look at other instances will help justify if their actions can be termed rebellion or just the biblical cleaving of a man to his wife:

  • The genesis of the saga would be the Duke of Sussex’s decision to marry not just a non-royal and non-Briton but an African-American woman, the first in the history of the royal family. Several norms were also discarded for the wedding with the union subsequently yielding the first multiracial royal baby of British and Afro-American descent.
  • The couple also defied tradition when they chose to spend the last Christmas in Toronto, Canada instead of the traditional family gathering with the Queen of England at the Sandringham castle. Although the time apart was supported by the Queen herself, popular opinion labelled the decision as inconsiderate as they were denying the Queen time with her Great Grandson.
  • Their big move was heralded by their seceding from the royal family of the older brother, Prince William and his wife Duchess Kate to form their own family. This was commemorated by their moving out of the Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate. They also formed their foundation after parting with Prince William and Duchess Kate charity which they were formerly associated with.

Conclusion: In an interview, Prince Harry was quoted saying that the decisions he is making are largely influenced by the ordeals of his mother, the late Princess Diana. Enigmatically, he added that if the public knew what he knows they would be more inclined to understand his need to protect his new family. We share Prince Harry’s sentiment and we conclude that his decisions are not rebellious or under duress from his wife. It is, however, the head of a family making bold moves to secure the future of his family. He is learning from experience and is better equipped to guard against the restrictions and hazards that could come with raising a family in the Windsor estate. We must admit, the Prince knows best!
