U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, have been going at each other since the year began. However, looking very cordial at their June 12 meeting at the Capella hotel on Singapore’s Sentosa, both leaders have signed a comprehensive document following the historic summit aimed at the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. The breakthrough made at the summit marks the start of a diplomatic process, which could bring lasting change to the security landscape of Northeast Asia, in similarity to when former U.S. President Richard Nixon visit to Beijing in 1972 led to the transformation of China.
According to Kim Jong un, both leaders had a historic meeting “and decided to leave the past behind. The world will see a major change.” President Trump also stated that the process of denuclearisation had formed a “special bond” with Kim and there will be a notable change in the relationship with North-Korea. In his words; “This is going to lead to more and more and more,”. The North-Korean leader went ahead to ask whether he will be invited to the White House, and the US president answered: “Absolutely, I will.” He added that the summit went “better than anybody could have expected”.
The show of harmony between the leaders has the world stunned and wondering if this is really genuine or just make-believe. Nevertheless, Only time will tell.
