How Was Boko Haram Formed? Former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar Shares Political Insights

Boko Haram is one of the worst terorist groups to have ever invaded Nigeria. Boko Haram terrorists are responsible for  killing hundreds of thousands of people in Northern Nigeria and for kidnapping and attempting to destroy the lives of over 250 young female children. Boko Haram is referred to as the Islamic State in West Africa or as Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād. In 2015, the Global Terrorism Index ranked Boko Haram as the most dangerous terrorist group in the world. The men behind Boko Haram are Mohammed Yusuf and Abubakar Shekau.

In 2018, Atiku Abubakar, Presidential aspirant in Nigeria, indicated to newsmen that Boko Haram was formed by young men who had downgraded into poverty due to being abandoned by the politicians they previously served. Atiku Abubakar further stated, “Politicians used those boys in Boko Haram to win elections and then abandoned them and then there were no jobs for them.  It was the same thing with the Niger Delta. In 1998, I saw it myself and I warned people. It’s going to be a multifaceted approach. It will involve negotiations. It will involve military action (to solve the Boko Haram crisis).”
