MTN has introduced new mobile money ATMs in Ghana. These new machines have been introduced due to the increase in mobile money services in the country, according to Accra based Citi FM. This will reportedly reduce the need for customers to visit mobile money vendors to make transactions. However, these new machines may have an adverse effect on the business of the mobile money vendors, and employment situations.
In addition to the mobile money services which will also afford customers the opportunity to transact business at odd hours, the self-service kiosk will allow customers to withdraw money without an ATM card from an Ecobank or Stanbic bank account. This is as a result of the system which allows a token withdrawal by accessing one’s account through a mobile money pin. The MTN modules is reportedly in its testing stages and is expected to unroll in a few months. These machines will also allow customers to buy and change MTN SIM cards.
