Interesting days are ahead for the people of Lagos state as more drama is likely to unfold after the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) seems to have drawn a line of division in the ruling party. Despite the efforts of the National Working Committee (NWC) to nullify the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Babjide Sanwo-Olu was declared the winner on Tuesday night polling a total number of 970,851 way ahead of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who got 72,901 votes.
The NWC declared the election illegal and without credibility with claims that fake election materials were used. However, the APC Chairman Mr. Tunde Balogun, against all odds said the people have spoken and officially declared Sanwoolu winner of the primary election. According to Mr. Balogun, it was necessary to announce the result of the primary that had been dubbed illegal, because the election conducted was a free and fair one.
Now, many will begin to wonder why the greatly loved and celebrated incumbent Lagos state Governor lost the primary election with such a wide gap in the margin, losing so many votes to Sanwoolu. Find out below, the top 2 reasons why Sanwoolu and not Ambode emerged as APC’S chosen candidate for the upcoming Lagos state governorship election:
- The unresolved bad blood between Ambode and Tinubu diverted Tinubu’s support to Sanwoolu. With Tinubu’s great influence in the APC and the backing of his mandate group, Sanwoolu virtually had all he needed to emerge as the APC’s choice for the next Lagos state governorship election and Ambode stood no chance.
- Ambode had been declared a ‘no party man’ by the Lagos state APC top players and as such had lost the support of the key party members, thereby losing majority votes.
