As the election period drew near, Lagos was painted with Sanwo-Olu’s face. It was burned into our memory, the image of the hopeful aspirant in his white shirt and pink tie with rolled up sleeves depicting that he was ready to work. So is the Governor living up to his campaign imagery? In just his first year of office, he has indeed made some headway in “Building A Greater Lagos” and here are the TOP 3 achievements through which he has begun fulfilling his promise:
1. The Blue Box Initiative.
Lagos State is blessed with a governor who is passionate about the environment and a sustainable future for Lagosians. To this effect, the Blue Box program was launched as a waste recycling initiative designed to sort waste from the source and capture about fifty (50) percent of recyclables upstream. The initiative aspires to propel zero tolerance for scavenging by June 2021, reduce the state’s carbon footprints and create green jobs whilst attracting major investors to strengthen the green sector.
2. Smart City Project.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu launched the Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) and earmarked over $ 600, 000 in start-up funds for investment in research and development for tech-focused solutions aimed at realising his ambition to make Lagos the pacesetter for innovation and technology in Nigeria. To buttress his commitment, the governor supported the first ever Tech convention in the state; Art of Technology (AOT) Lagos 1.0 conference.
3. Healthy Bee Initiative
The free medical mission was established to provide healthcare for children suffering from organ impairments and life threatening medical conditions. It began with screenings at Primary Health Care centres where children in critical conditions were transferred to a tertiary health care facilities after diagnosis. The project aims to eliminate mental and physical challenges that threaten the development and future of children in the state.
