On Friday, February 26th 2021, The Nigerian Senate officially confirmed the appointment or Abdulrasheed Bawa as the Chairman of The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, a governmental parastatal setup to investigate and minimize corruption activities in the country. Bawa has been an employee of EFCC for almost 2 decades where he started as Assistant Detective Superintendent. He is a graduate of Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics (Second Class Upper). 

During a press conference after his appointment, Bawa explained that the repatriation of wealth stolen and kept abroad would be the main focus of the EFCC under his watch and that EFFC would improve on its use of “Unexplained Wealth Order (UWO) “ policy to check against corrupt practices.
