Former Deputy Governor of Liberia’s Central Bank, Charles Sirleaf, son of Liberia’s ex-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has been charged with economic sabotage in connection with the unlawful printing of local currency worth millions of dollars, misuse of public money and criminal conspiracy. Mr. Sirleaf is suspected of pocketing some of the proceeds in 2016-2018.

According to the reports, there are allegations that Mr. Sirleaf is connected to the disappearance of more than $100m (£75m) worth of newly printed Liberian banknotes last year. Claiming, he had acted unilaterally and unlawfully by printing and importing into the country three times the number of banknotes it had been authorized to do. Mr. Sirleaf is being held in prison until his trail.
