Denise Bucumi Nkurunziza is the first lady of Burundi. She has been married to the President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza since 1994. Pierre Nkurunziza was democratically elected president in 2005 and plans to remain president till at least 2020. Denise Bucumi is a pastor and ordained minister. She frequently preaches Christianity to large congregations. Denise Bucumi considers herself a born again christian and her christian faith remains a stronger priority to her than her first lady role. She has 5 children.Along with her husband, she is a member of the National Council for the Defense of Democracy (NCDD) political party.
