In 2018, a scandal reeked across all political terrains in Nigeria. Hadiza Bala Usman had allegedly given Adams Oshiomhole, through a third party, bribery of $2 million. Hadiza Bala Usman allegedly partook in the payout of this massive amount to have Uba Sani, instead of Shehu Sani (Read: Who Is Shehu Sani?), for All Progressives Congress (APC) senate elections. Hadiza Bala Usman and her co-conspirators allegedly wanted Uba Sani in the race for Senator of Nigeria representing Kaduna Central, in place of incumbent Shehu Sani. This led to millions of Nigerians wondering who Hadiza Bala Usman is. Hadiza Bala Usman was appointed by Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari to head the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) as Managing Director. Prior to her NPA appointment, Hadiza Bala Usman was Chief of Staff to Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State. Nasir El-Rufai is said to be at war with Shehu Sani which points to why he would do anything to ensure Shehu Sani’s power diminishes.  Hadiza Bala Usman denies all ties to the bribery scandal nonetheless, she remains a connected figure in Kaduna politics and the APC party. Hadiza Bala Usman was previously married to Nigerian politician Taminu Yakubu and once served as Chief Economic Adviser to late former President of Nigeria, Musa Yar’Adua.
