Who is Mohammed Indimi? Billionaire Oil Mogul

Mohammed Indimi is a Nigerian businessman and philanthropist. He is the founder and chairman of Oriental Energy Resources (OER), a privately-held Nigerian oil exploration and production company. Indimi was born in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in north-east Nigeria, on August 12, 1947. Alhaji Mamman Kurundu, his father, was also a merchant who traded in hides and skins. Indimi went to a traditional Qur’anic school, which is common among Muslim communities in Northern Nigeria and was unable to attend formal school because his father could not afford to pay for his official western education, but he learned to speak, read, and write in English.

At the age of 10, Indimi followed his father to local markets around Borno to trade animal hides and skins. After receiving a 100 pound loan from his friend Alhaji Umar Tela, he became self-sufficient and launched his own business in 1963. He expanded into selling clothes which were imported from Chad and Cameroon

Indimi was granted an oil exploration license by the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida regime in 1990. Oriental Energy Resources is an oil and gas company he founded (OER). Oriental currently has three projects offshore of Nigeria’s Niger Delta region. Indimi sits on the board of directors of a number of companies, including Jaiz Bank.

Muhammad Indimi Foundation (MIF) was founded by Indimi to help needy families by alleviating poverty, combating hunger, illiteracy, and addressing health issues. Indimi has empowered and supported people in the North East who have been affected by the Boko Haram situation through his foundation. He constructed a 100-unit N600 million housing estate and provided food, clothing, schools, and hospitals for Boko Haram’s internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno State. In Enwang, Mbo LGA, Akwa Ibom, the Muhammad Indimi foundation constructed a 100-unit modern residential complex worth N700 million. He launched a sponsorship scheme for the University of Uyo’s Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering and gave over 470 scholarships in Akwa Ibom State. Indimi donated a multi-million-dollar International Business Centre to Lynn University in the USA, which was named after him.
