Who Is Valentine Strasser? How Was The World’s Youngest President In Africa At Age 25 Downgraded To A Pauper At Age 50?

Valentine Strasser also known as Reginald Strasser barely lived past 50 years old or did he? He was one of Africa’s most ambitious men who became the world’s youngest president at age 25. While many are speculating he his dead, with no real facts, here’s his story. Valentine Strasser came into power in April 1992 after he and 6 other Junior Military Officers under the National Provisional Ruling Council  in Sierra Leone successfully overthrew the leadership of then president Joseph Saidu Momoh.

Valentine Strasser was unfortunately too young and too inexperienced to handle the position thoroughly. Valentine Strasser was unable to compete progressively with international leaders. He instead resorted to living a lavish life for him and his political “boys” in Sierra Leone while the rest of his country men suffered. Valentine Strasser once directed the execution of 26 political opponents on a beach outside Freetown, Sierra leone – one of his worst known crimes.

Valentine Strasser From President to Poor Man

In 1996, Valentine Strasser left the terrains of power in Sierra Leone when his deputy, Maada Bio was un-democratically elected President. Valentine Strasser  moved to Guinea and later to England with the support of the United Nations. He was admitted into the University of Warwick to study law but quickly dropped out due to protesters calling him a “human rights violator”. By 2000, he returned to Africa and found a base in Gambia. Shortly after, he was deported back to his hometown of Grafton, Sierra Leone where he lived as a sad, very poor man said to be destroyed by alcohol. His feud with his former deputy and current president of Sierra Leone, Maada Bio, is one of the biggest contributors to Strasser’s downfall.
