African Museums to France’s Emmanuel Macron: Return African Treasures and Artworks Back To Africa Now

African museum leaders have supported a report calling on France’s leader, Emmanuel Macron to return all African treasures and artworks to African museums. Treasures that were lost during the colonization era, to France and other colonial powers. In 2017, while on a 3-days visit to Africa, Emmanuel Macron addressed young students in Burkina Faso. Macron said “Africa’s heritage cannot just be in European private collections and museums.” On this note and Macron’s continuous promises of equality and support for Africa, a report has called for Macron to lead efforts on returning African treasures and artworks back to the African museums on the continent. This can be facilitated through the African Union and selected ministries of related colonized countries. To approve the request, Emmanuel Macron would have to change France’s long-standing heritage laws that strictly forbid the government from ceding state property.
