In 2018, Facebook updated section 8 of their community standards policies. Users of Facebook must not post content that facilitates, encourages or coordinates sexual encounters between adults. Facebook has also restricted “sexually explicit language that may lead to solicitation.” Prohibited content includes filmed sexual activities i.e. porn, strip club shows, erotic dances and sexual massages. 

Facebook’s stance against sexually provocative content has always been strong. Facebook simply emphasized the ban more explicitly. This is due to a rise in sexual content across the platform amidst increasing criticisms of Facebook worldwide. A number of Facebook shareholders and government officials in the UK and USA have called for the Chairman and CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, to step down.
