2021: Highest Ranking Nollywood Films

Nigeria has been making waves in the Film industry overtime. To think of when it all began and where we are now, there is great improvement. A list of the top 3 highest ranking Nollywood films will be highlighted below.

  1. Omo Ghetto

The movie was released on the 25th of December 2020. It is a Nigerian gangster comedy film co-directed by Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz. Omo ghetto grossed N187m+ at the Nigerian cinemas in less than a week. The movie is also set to become the first Nigerian movie to be released in UAE, Dubai cinemas. The movie is said to have gained more than N468 million at the box office in one month. Funke Akindele revealed another layer of herself in more ways than one. She produced the movie, co-directed it, and also acted extremely contrasting dual roles in the same film.

2. Fate of Alakada

The movie was released on Independence day, 1st of October. It was written by Moshood Yakubu Olawale and Ozioma Ogbaji, and directed by Kayode Kasum.  The film star Toyin Abraham and Broda Shaggi in the lead roles. It was earlier scheduled for an April release but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, grossed over N28 million within four days. The Fate of Alakada had the highest-grossing figures for the post-lockdown period. The final box office collection of the film stood at ₦112,149,600.

3. Rattle Snake

Rattle Snake was released November 13 2020, this remake of Amaka Igwe’s 1995 hit movie, ‘RattleSnake’ had an impressive run at the cinemas.  The film is a 2020 Nigerian thriller action film which had the executive producer as Charles Okpaleke and was directed by Ramsey Nouah.  The film stars Stan Nze, Chiwetalu Agu, Omotola Jalade and Ayo Makun in the lead roles.  It is regarded as one of the best Nigerian films of 2020.The final cumulative stood at ₦70,381,550 at the box office.
