The United States government has increased the bounty for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from twenty-five million dollars to fifty million dollars. This sharp escalation follows new accusations linking Maduro to international narcotics trafficking networks including the Sinaloa Cartel and a regional criminal group known as Cartel of the Suns. Authorities claim that more than thirty metric tons of cocaine and over seven hundred million dollars in assets have been seized in operations allegedly connected to his regime. The United States does not recognize Maduro’s most recent reelection and continues to label his administration illegitimate and criminal. Venezuela has rejected the reward announcement as foreign interference and a political provocation that violates international norms.
