Can Nigeria Ever Attain The Heights of Being A Developed Nation? I Ponder At Work This Morning Amidst News On “Nigeria Decides”

I’m Anita Kalu, Author and Analyst at Olatorera Consultancy Limited and this is my opinion and work on a Wednesday morning as I ponder Nigeria’s many problems.

Without sentiments, biased opinions and mincing words, nothing presently in Nigeria is structured constructively and organized to meet up a standard nation’s requirement. We are falling headlong onto a vast open space of nothingness where our existence would become extinct. Nothing in Nigeria is functioning as it should unless we choose to lie to ourselves and settle for what we’re currently getting.

Nothing on Banana Island, nothing in Ikoyi, nothing in Ikorodu, nothing in Owerri, nothing in Gwagwalada, not our educational systems, not infrastructure, not our religion is preparing us for the industry that being a developed nation would require. If we want it, we are expected to” take it by force” from the claws of the spiritual. Something like that? SAD!

We are so far away from average living, yet so conceited and highfalutin. There are no signs that we will get here in yet another 3 decades. But we will keep having more children, we will keep running to camps for salvation driven by fear, we will continue to elect and defend rotten politicians waiting for their crumbs to fall off the table into our palms spread underneath, we will continue to accept the unhealthy air of mediocrity that floats all over the atmosphere of this nation.

Nigeria is a nightmare and we have nothing to brag about. Is it there a sophisticated transport system or functioning oil refinery to brag about? Or world recognized solar power installation that is set to beat the beast of electricity China is currently being powered on.

Nigeria: A country with 199 million ways to be foolish.
