In a bid to enhance flexible connectivity, 9Mobile has joined the ranks of early adapters of the e-Sim technology in Africa. The embedded subscriber identity module (e-Sim) is the latest of its additions to its digital solutions portfolio.

The e-SIM is a software-based digital chip that directly planted in a mobile device. When placed in a compatible device, it effectively replaces the physical SIM card along with added benefits.
The acting Director of Marketing, Mr Layi Onafowokan, explained that e-SIM enables multiple usage of one subscriber profile across a broad range of mobile communication devices. It also enables internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) applications including smart commuting, metering, tracking, and surveillance. This provides an edge over the limited single-device use of the conventional SIM card.
He added that customers can acquire and activate the eSIM at any 9mobile Experience Centre. Agents will provide a QR code to scan and download an e-SIM profile, then perform the usual SIM registration. Importantly, customers that activate 9mobile’s eSIM service will enjoy up to 7GB data-free. Meanwhile those who want to change to an eSIM will only do a SIM swap at the 9Mobile Experience Centre. Likewise, those who purchase a new phone and prefer a regular SIM can get it at the 9mobile Experience Centre.
All compatible mobile devices include iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, iPhone XS, XS Max, iPhone XR. Android devices include Samsung S20 Series, Google Pixel 3, 3XL, Pixel 4, 4XL.
