Shocking as Attahiru who was sacked in July 2017 as the theatre commander of the joint task force after failing to capture the leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, is the new army chief.

As the he resumes his new duty of leading the Nigerian Army in the prolonged war against terrorism throughout the country, especially in the northern region, here are 5 facts to note about him:

1. He had a one time opportunity to lead the attack against Boko Haram in the North-East in 2017.

2.He was sacked in July 2017 after attacks characterised by bombings from the terrorists increased.

3. Ibrahim Attahiru has served as a commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, the special military unit formed to deal with insurgents in Northeast Nigeria.

4. Before his latest appointment, the new Nigeria Army chief headed the 82 Division of the force.

5. He was then replaced with another general, Nicholas Rogers,  a major general who was in charge of logistics at the army headquarters.
