Rochas Okorocha, having been Governor of Imo State since 2011, is seeking the Imo West Senatorial district ticket. However, he has been declared the winner of Imo West senatorial district.

This was announced by Professor Francis Ibeawuchi, the INEC Returning officer at the collation center in Orlu Local Government Area (LGA), few hours after Rochas and his thugs stormed the center and held the INEC staff hostage in Owerri. They threatened that none of the officers would be allowed to leave the venue until the governor had been declared the winner. This act raised the eyebrows of Nigerians questioning the relevance of his actions if the certainty of his winning the elections was clear.
