President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has unarguably been very unfriendly on Nigeria and Nigerians, particularly economy-wise. Without over-criticizing his administration- as he has been able to tackle corruption to some extent and recover quite a large amount of looted funds for the country, his tenure as president has still been a nightmare to Nigerians. From the economic recession to fuel price hike, the dollar to naira rate, cost of living as a result of unbelievable price hike in goods and services and more importantly, driving Nigeria into becoming one of the poorest economies in the world and the country with the most number of poor people.
Atiku Abubakar, the second elected Vice-president of Nigeria and one of the 2019 elections presidential candidates, through his campaign organization and campaign spokesperson, Segun Sowunmi, has referred to President Muhammadu Buhari- without mincing words- as Nigeria’s worst leader. He said one of his reasons for contesting for president is to “clean the mess that Buhari would leave which has resulted in job loss, poor economy and ranking of the country as one of the poorest.” He added that “never in the history of Nigeria has a more incompetent person served in the chambers of the exalted office of the President. Buhari has made many Nigerians lose their jobs and our country has become one of the poorest countries in the world. He has made a mess of the economy”.
Do you agree with Atiku’s position or do you think it is a ploy to win over Nigerians and ensure he is voted in as president?
