Politics Nigeria: Top 3 Reasons Why Former Senator Aisha Alhassan Quit APC And Resigned As Buhari’s Minister For Women Affairs And Social Development

The last week of September 2018 signaled the end of Aisha Alhassan’s reign in Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC) political party. Aisha Alhassan is an ambitious woman who is seeking alternative routes to power. It is being speculated that she had tendered her resignation in a letter to The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, in July 2019 but the president was yet to respond until Aisha Alhassan made her intentions public in September 2018. Once it became public, The president of Nigeria, also publicly accepted her resignation. Aisha Alhassan has proceeded to join the United Development Party (UDP) of Nigeria. The below are the top 3 reasons Why Former Senator Former Minister Aisha Alhassan Quit APC and resigned from her position as Minister for Women’s Affairs and Social Development:

  1. Her political ambitions were being hindered. Aisha Alhassan is seeking to be the next Governor of Taraba State Nigeria and political leaders of her now-former party, APC, preferred an alternate candidate.
  2. She was not gaining much politically and personally in her current role as Minister of “Women’s Affairs and Social Development.”
  3. She has more to gain by transitioning to a new party and less to loose. Seeing that her ambitions were being hindered and she was not gaining much politically, financially and personally in her current ministerial role, it was a necessary move for the minister to move on to a political party that would hold her in higher regards and push her ambitions forward.
