Emeka Offor is one of the most well known donors to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under President Olusegun Obasanjo. Emeka Offor donated worthily to PDP’s political campaigns and in return, garnered favorable government contracts related to the oil, electricity generation and construction industries. He is the owner and chief executive officer of Chrome Oil Limited and Global Scan Systems Limited. Born in Kafanchan, Southern Kaduna, Nigeria, his passion for his country led him into politics-related businesses but many critics say his government contracts were seldom executed, Emeka Offor simply swindled Nigerian government to enrich himself and not the nation.
In 2017, employees from both his companies, Chrome Oil and Global Scan, sued Emeka Offor to court claiming non-payment of taxes, pension funds and salaries. Emeka Offor is said to be in debt of over 2 Billion Naira. In his defense, Emeka Offor insisted that the economic downturn that began in Nigeria in 2015, caused his companies to have little to no contracts to execute and thus led him to shut down his businesses. The emergence of opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC), and President Muhammadu Buhari, limited government contracts within the nation especially to PDP related businessmen who were known for poor execution or non-delivery of contracts. Since Buhari resumed power, many businesses have shut down in Nigeria, including international Banks HSBC and UBS (Read: Top 2 Reasons Why HSBC and UBS Exited Nigeria In A Brutal Manner).
