Jonah Jang has been a strong force in Nigerian politics for over 25 years. Now in his 7th decade of life, Jonah Jang recently announced his retirement from elected leadership in Nigeria. Jonah Jang’s political career started decades ago when he served as military governor of Benue State of Nigeria. He subsequently served as military governor of Gongola state of Nigeria. In 2007, Jonah Jang was successfully elected as Governor of Plateau State of Nigeria. A position he served for 2 terms, ending in 2015. After his servitude as governor, Jonah Jang moved on to contest for a national senate seat – which he won. He has been a senator in Nigeria since 2015 and will retire in 2019.

EFCC Interrogation
Jonah Jang is currently under intense scrutiny by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria. He is accused of several crimes including diverting funds and converting state assets to his personal wealth. According to EFCC, Jonah Jang’s financial crimes in Nigeria exceed 6 Billion naira. One of the EFCC findings is a property in Kaduna State worth 500 million Naira purpotedly owned by Jonah Jang. In his defense, through his representative, Jonah Jang said ““The property formerly belonging to Northern Nigerian Development Company, Kaduna, was allocated to the Senator while he was the executive Governor of Plateau State but eventually lost interest and did not continue with the acquisition.”
