Earlier this week, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation Senator Hadi Sirika announced the suspension of the national carrier project ‘Air Nigeria’ on twitter without giving reasons but pointing out that it had nothing to do with politics. However, the PDP released a press statement yesterday, calling for the arrest and immediate prosecution of the Minister of Aviation with allegations of using a non-existent national carrier to defraud the nation of N1.2 billion.

The PDP alleged that the non-existent national carrier was a ploy devised by Buhari’s administration and the APC leaders to deceive Nigerians that the President’s administration is working and being productive, and has also called on Buhari to speak out on the corrupt activities taking place under his watch. The PDP claims that the suspension of the project was a ploy to cover up the project which never began in the first place. The party has demanded the recovery of the N1.2 billion to be used to settle critical affairs within the aviation sector such as the unpaid pension owed to the retired aviation workers.

Neither the APC, Aviation Minister or the President have commented on the PDP’s press release or issued their own statement in reply to the allegations so far.
