As the tenure of former Chairman, Tunde Fowler has come to an end, the Federal Inland Revenue Service is set to be led by former tax consultant Muhammed Nami. President Buhari appointed Nami to lead the revenue collection agency and also created a new FIRS board currently awaiting approval from the Senate. A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Muhammad Nami has been described as an experienced tax and accounting professional whose appointment will be beneficial to the management of the agency.

The appointment was disclosed by Presidential Spokesperson, Garba Shehu on Monday 9th November 2019 via his official handle on Twitter handle where the ousting of the former FIRS Chairman has been put on center stage. However the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has supported the leadership change citing the agency state of affairs and low revenue generation as justification for the President’s decision.
