Highlights of The 2018 Youth Connekt Summit Kigali Rwanda For Africa’s Continental Transformation

The Annual Youth Connekt Summit has grown into one of the continent’s most prestigious youth events. The organizers aim to centralize young leaders across the continent to share strategies on the way forward for African youth and the continent at large. “Africa’s Future is Bright” was the centralized tone for the 2018 summit. The theme for the just concluded summit was “Connecting Youth For Continental Transformation.” The well-planned, well-attended Youth Connekt Summit held at The Kigali International Convention Center (KICC) Rwanda from October 8th to October 10th. Key highlights of the summit included:

• Thousands of Youths from Over 25 African Countries including Rwanda, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Botswana, South Sudan, Cape Verde, Zambia, Gambia, Chad and others.
• Speakers at the event included Edouard Ngirente, Prime Minister of Rwanda, Omar Abdi, Executive Director at UNICEF, Ashish Thakkar, Founder and Chief Executive at Mara Group Africa, Olatorera Oniru, Chief Executive Officer, Dressmeoutlet.com and Olatorera.com, Rosemary Mbabazi, Minister For Youth Development in Rwanda, Ahunna Eziakonwa, Assistant Secretary-General of UNDP Africa, Fatou Lo, Head of United Nations (UN) Women Rwanda, among other great leaders.
• Inspirational sessions included several Connekted Innovators panel sessions and a very engaging session on “Youth Empowerment, a necessity for Africa’s economic transformation.”
• Key output goals for the summit included Nurturing over 1 million youth leaders and creating over 10 million jobs for youth across the continent. Networking opportunities for further continental developments were immense.

At the conference, Speaker Olatorera Oniru empowered the audience during a Connekted Innovation session, saying: “Many say PUSH means ‘Pray Until Something Happens’. I say PUSSH means Push Urgently with Strategies until your Success is Heightened (PUSSH) to a point where you can’t come down even if they tried to bring you down!”

In his opening remarks, the prime minister of Rwanda, Edouard Ngirente said,  “The Africa We Want by 2063 is an Africa whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential of all her people, including its women and youth, and caring for children. To achieve it, Africa requires holistic transformation.”
