The Unveiling of a corrupt oil deal that occurred in Nigeria in 2011, known as the OPL 245 deal under the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that Nigeria’s lifetime losses over the deal amount to an estimated $6 billion, which is twice the country’s annual education and healthcare budget, all as a result of the massive controversial oil deal currently under trial in a court in Milan. The two oil companies Eni and Shell which were granted access to explore OPL 245 oil block in Niger Delta by Dan Etete under the Goodluck Jonathan administration were alleged to have known that payment made to the government was bribery for the facilitation of the deal.
Although the oil giants Italian Eni, and Anglo-Dutch Shell, have denied any illegality in the OPL 245 deal, this divulging scandal which is being determined in an Italian court, involving Goodluck Jonathan, former Nigerian petroleum minister Dan Etete, Shell and Eni oil companies, M16 officers, the FBI, and some senior executives at both oil companies such as former shell CFO Simon Henry who was forced to retire (Read The Corruption Scandal That Ruined Simon Henry Of Shell Oil’s Executive Career), continues to reveal foul play. It was also revealed that Dan Etete who has been found guilty of money laundering by a French court used the illicit funds to acquire a speedboat and a chateau.
