Yahaya Bello who is the current Governor of Kogi state is currently trending as the worst governor in Nigeria. Bello emerged as governor in the 2015 gubernatorial election under the APC’s platform when the initial winner of the election and his predecessor, Late Abubakar Audu died suddenly just before the conclusion of the election.
Kogi state which is located at the center of Nigeria and regarded as the ‘Confluence State’ because the confluence of the River Niger and River Benue is located at Lokoja the state’s Capital, is one of the poorly developed states in the country. Since Governor Yahaya Bello emerged as governor, there have been no notable changes effected within the state so far, only the lingering promises of a man who had an ambition of gaining the title of governor and nothing more. At the beginning of his election, Bello had a mass pool of followers and supporters who believed him to be the “Messiah” that the people had been longing for over the years and the face of the youths in the state. Meanwhile, the promising Governor turned out to be a man of many words and no action.
Instead, Bello’s tenure has been filled with increased clashes between the Fulani herdsmen and farmers, increased hunger in the state, a redundant administration and his constant public fights with the House of Assembly and other fellow politicians, one of whom is Senator Dino Melaye. Bello is apparently on a losing streak for whatever hopes he may have for a re-election.
