Sally Mbanefo is one of Nigeria’s top 500 female politicians. She has been in the political circle for over 10 years. Prior to politics, she was employed in the banking industry for over 20 years. From 2011 – 2015, she was heavily accused of corruption and financial embezzlement under the leadership of Goodluck Jonathan, a former president of Nigeria who once said “Stealing is not corruption.”. When he assumed office as President of Nigeria in 2011, Goodluck Jonathan appointed Sally Mbanefo to replace Otunba Runsewe as Managing Director of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, where she amassed a lot of wealth. Other women including Patience Jonathan and Diezani Allison Madueke, are knowing to have amassed stupendous illegal wealth during Jonathan’s tenure.

 

Sally was fired by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 from her position as  Director General of the Nigeria Tourism Development. In June 2018, she was appointed Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism for Anambra State in Eastern Nigeria where she is now resides and works full-time under Governor Willie Maduabuchukwu Obiano. A position that should keep her stable for the next few years.

Most recently, she was interview in Lagos and said “Life is just an incredible beautiful experience if you have the right attitude. You must always learn to bury your hatchet. I made incredible friends in Abuja. When I was a banker, I was popular and always in the newspapers. When I was in the banking sector I thought that was everything in the world, but I’ve seen that it’s not. There’s more to life than money. It’s good to have money as far as you use the money well. God blesses you with money so that you reach out to others that are in need. God is very generous with me. I have always wanted two children and a son and that’s exactly what God gave me. I have always wanted to give to the poor, I’m doing that now; give and give, and I don’t regret what I give.”
