In March 2020, Notable Monarch of Kano State and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was dethroned of his royal title as Emir of Kano. This news vibrated across the entire literate population of the country. Sanusi was the 14th Emir of Kano and served only 6 years before being legally dethroned by his rivalry, Governor of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje who was at the forefront of the coup. The case of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, is not the first case of dethronement in Nigeria. Historically, there have been other similarly prolific instances.
