Famed Liberian Soccer star, George Weah, was sworn in as President of Liberia in January 2018 under the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Party, a political alliance for change which he founded in 2003. Despite his notoriety, he has been criticized by many as lacking the qualifications required to run Liberia to greatness. He once said “Many critics said that I wouldn’t make it. Many suggested that I would be a failure, but I didn’t listen to them.”

 

1. He was a high school drop-out. He is viewed as someone without the acumen and financial and political qualifications to lead a country.
2. He attended and/or obtained a business degree from Devry University later in life. It is possible that he simply paid for or was awarded a honorary degree. Devry University is one of the lowest ranked Universities in the United States of America. The University is well known for mostly promoting its online distant-learning courses.
3. He is polygamous as it is reported that he has 2 children outside of his marriage to Clar Weah. George Weah has one child with a woman named Meapeh Gono and another child with another woman, MacDella Cooper.
4. He is a very private person. George Weah rarely grants interviews with the media and not much is known publicly about him aside what he wishes to share.
