The Former Spokesman for President Olusegun Obasanjo and a former governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party in Ogun State, Dr. Doyin Okupe, is facing trial for alleged diversion of funds from the ONSA. Dr. Doyin was the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Former President Goodluck Jonathan (2012- 2015).

According to a witness, Dr Okupe collected N702Million from government’s treasury for doing nothing. He allegedly received the sum in different tranches between 2012 and 2014. Dr Okupe said the money was for special services and when asked to elaborate what he meant by ‘special services’, Okupe said part of the money was used to sponsor ‘Insight’, a programme on NTA”. However, NTA claims that the said programme was aired free of charge, in line with the television’s regulations for addressing its corporate social responsibility. Dr. Okupe is currently under trial by the EFCC and his case has been adjourned till March 7 2019, for cross-examination.
