Macky Sall, age 57, was a prime minister of Senegal under President Abdoulaye Wade from April 2004 to June 2007. Sall was a long-time member of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS), after coming in conflict with Wade, he was removed from his post. Consequently, he founded his own party and joined the opposition. He was placed second in the first round of the 2012 presidential election and prevailed over Wade in the second round of voting, held on March 25, 2012.

Senegal President, Macky Sall, won his re-election bid for a second term, of five years, following Sunday’s election. The presidential race brought allegations that the presidency effectively blocked two prominent opposition politicians from taking part. Nevertheless, President Macky Sall inherited a sick country in all areas as evidenced by the growth rate which was 2% in 2012. Senegal’s economy is one of the highest in Africa, with more than 6% growth rate. Here are the Top 3 achievements he made in Senegal during his first term:

  • Agricultural sector: In the agriculture sector, rice production rose by more than one million tonnes, while exports of fruit and vegetables increased.
