Ogun State politics just took a very interesting turn. For those who are lost in the drama, here’s a quick recap. The 2019 Elections in Nigeria are weeks away. In 2018, Dapo Abiodun declared his intent to run for Governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC) Party. The party leaders officiated Dapo Abiodun as Governorship candidate.

Current Governor of Ogun State and member of the APC party, Ibikunle Amosun, was displeased with the appointment of Dapo Abiodun, whom he has a deep battle against. Amosun at one point, vowed to do whatever on earth it takes to make sure Dapo Abiodun never becomes Governor of Ogun State. Amosun endorsed a different candidate, Abiodun Akinlade under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) Party.

Here’s where it get’s interesting. Current Governor Ibikunle Amosun is reportedly a very close friend of President Muhammadu Buhari. It has been said that their children at some point had strong relationships too and once lived together. Amosun also named and dedicated a massive land area in Abeokuta to Buhari; called the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate. Towards the end of 2018, Amosun visited Buhari to garner support for his political ambitions and all seemed well. This public picture of Buhari supporting Dapo Abiodun is a major blow to Governor Amosun.
