Why Did Goodluck Jonathan Refer To Obafemi Hamzat As A Liar?

Obafemi Hamzat popularly known as Femi Hamzat or Dr. Kadri hamzat, is in the running to become Deputy Governor of Lagos State of Nigeria in 2019. He previously sought to become Governor of Lagos State twice in the past under the APC party ticket but failed. In 2014, Obafemi Hamzat lost the party ticket for Governor of Lagos State to Akinwunmi Ambode. In 2018, he lost to Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Babajide Sanwo-Olu called on Obafemi Hamzat to be his running mate as deputy Governor for 2019 and beyond.

On the first of January 2019, former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, released statements to the media through one of his media representatives. Part of the statements stated ” This character [Obafemi Hamzat] is an obscure individual who in 2015 had neither a recognisable name nor political clout.  The point has to be clearly made that former President Jonathan has never met this man who was obviously not relevant in the national politics of 2015, let alone seek to offer him bribe. “If the former President did not offer anyone bribe, having clearly acquitted himself as a man who does not believe in desperate politics,  how on earth could he have sought to compromise an individual he didn’t even know and who obviously had no means of helping him politically?”

Why?

Obafemi Hamzat indicated in December 2018, during the course of his political campaign activities, that Goodluck Jonathan offered him $5million. This he said was as a form of bribery while Goodluck Jonathan was president of Nigeria.
