Petroleum giant Seplat Petroleum Development Company was founded in 2009 by billionaire oil magnate and surgeon Dr Ambrose Bryant Chukwueloka “ABC” Orjiakor and the company’s current Managing Director and CEO Mr Austin Avuru. ABC Orjiakor currently sits as the company’s chairman but before venturing into the oil and gas business, Dr Orjiakor trained professionally as a surgeon and specialized in orthopaedic and trauma surgery.
Before merging with Mr Avuru to establish Seplat, he established Abbeycourt, which traded crude oil and refined petroleum products with, amongst others, the UK’s Glencore, Abbeycourt Energy, Zebbra Energy and Shebah Exploration and Production Company Limited. Dr Orjiako also has other business interests in construction, real estate development, pharmaceuticals and shipping. He is also the chairman of Neimeth Pharmaceutical International plc, which is listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange, and a director of MPI and Etablissements Maurel et Prom, both of which are listed on the New York Stock Exchange and Euronext Paris. His current net worth is estimated at $1.2 billion and he also owns the 15-storey first building to be completed in Nigeria’s cutting-edge city of the future, Eko Atlantic, known as Alpha 1 or Afren Tower.
He is recognized as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished businessmen and for his numerous accomplishments and contributions to the Nigerian business environment.
